**THERE IS NO CHARGE TO AUDITION FOR REVELATION**
- Practice! One of the key traits that Revelation looks for is confidence. You can’t be confident if you don’t know your stuff! The audition process will also include visual elements. You are encouraged to also practice playing on the move.
What is the audition process?
Participants will meet as shown on the Revelation Percussion events calendar. At the end of the second Sunday, each prospective member will be given a Letter of Intent that details the position for which he/she is being considered. On the final audition day, all prospective members will turn in their membership deposit before that day’s audition activities begin. At the end of the day, if a student is not offered a contract or he/she chooses not to accept the position as offered, the deposit will be refunded. This will ensure that we are only offering positions to individuals who are 100% committed to participating.
Can I be a high school student and be a member of Revelation?
Revelation is open to members 14 to 22 years of age. To support and encourage scholastic growth, we will not actively recruit members who were previously enrolled in an active indoor percussion high school program and have not yet graduated, and will not seek to recruit members from high school programs that have a competitive indoor percussion program.
How much does it cost?
Membership dues are $900 for New Members, $850 for Returning Members. Payment due dates are scheduled throughout the season. Revelation is created to provide a positive musical experience for each member. While it is important that all money is collected as scheduled we understand that there are extenuating circumstances. Revelation will work with individuals as best we can to meet specific financial needs.
Dues include the following: member jacket (first year members), uniform, group travel to Regional and World events, and a ticket to Percussion World Class Finals in Dayton, Ohio.
A more detailed list of expenses covered by dues can be found in the Revelation ‘Responsibilities of Membership’ section of our handbook.
Is there additional cost?
We strive to include as much as possible in our operating budget to minimize additional cost to our members. Members will need money for additional fast food or concessions on event weekends. To cover camp and travel meals, we provide a sign up list for food donations for each event. Through the generosity of our parents and some local businesses, we have provided numerous breakfasts, lunches, and dinners for our members for our overnights.
Do you provide housing?
Revelation does NOT provide housing during the standard rehearsal weekends. However, once the ensemble is set, Revelation will help to connect members that live near the rehearsal site for overnight arrangements. NOTE: For camp weekends and out-of-town performances, Revelation will provide housing. Most of the time we sleep in a high school or church gymnasium which has complete shower facilities.
What is the rehearsal and performance schedule for the season?
After auditions, Revelation will rehearse Sundays 10am – 6pm through December , and Fridays 6-10pm & Saturdays 9am-9pm January through April. We will also host monthly Friday-Sunday camp weekends and out-of-town trips for the Spartanburg Regional and World Percussion Finals. An up-to-date schedule is available on our website calendar and will be given out with the handbook. We will NOT REHEARSE the weekends of Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, and Easter.
NOTE: There may be times when the rehearsal schedule will need to be adjusted due to progress, upcoming performances, weather considerations, etc.
Can I still teach a high school program?
It is our hope that performers from Revelation would have an interest in teaching high school groups in the area. Often there are many opportunities. Becoming part of Revelation Percussion, you will realize all members involved make many sacrifices. One is the sacrifice of time.
Attendance at rehearsals, camps weekends, and performances are mandatory. Even with teaching other groups, one must understand that you have made a commitment to be a performer in Revelation. School related activities that are a part of the grade for the class, and family emergencies have been excused in the past. Time management of your family, school, work, and social schedules need to allow you to attend every rehearsal. If you have a scheduling conflict or concern, it is vital that it is brought to the directors’ attention as soon as possible.
